Keys are essential to start the journey, if it is lost or misplaced then the vehicle becomes useless. Facing key problems is an unfortunate inconvenience, a major question arises “How to start an electric scooter without a key?”

Not making the situation worse let us go through the process that can help you, make sure you own the electric scooter as it is an illegal and punishable offense if it is not yours.

Technique 1

Technique 1 to start an electric scooter without keys

The simplest way that one can use to start the ignition, is using a screwdriver. It does not require excessive knowledge about the electric scooter or mechanical skills. To perform this technique, you need a flat-head screwdriver. Slide the screwdriver into the key slot. Turn the screwdriver in a clockwise direction till it slightly fits to the slot and you get an indication of your scooter being started.

Technique 2

Technique 2 to start an electric scooter without keys

If the screwdriver technique does not work, but you are very desperate to start the electric scooter, then proceed with technique 2 which will help to overcome this unfortunate situation. You need to access the wire which is generally beneath the deck of the electric scooter. Locate the red wire, one from the ignition switch and the other from the battery. Leaving behind 2cm to 3cm of wire, disconnect it from the individual plugs. Twist both ends and secure it with the help of electrical tape. Press the power button to check if the electric scooter starts.

Technique 3

Technique 3 to start an electric scooter without keys

If both technique fails, you can go for a permanent solution by purchasing a compatible new ignition switch for your electric scooter. Next, locate the ignition switch which preferably is on the handlebar, and unscrew the bolts that hold it. Disconnect the old ignition switch and connect the new ignition switch to the wire harness. Use electrical tape to secure the switch in its exact place and try with the new key that has been provided.

Conclusion – Always have duplicate keys with you, to avoid any such situation. Contact the manufacturer first as they might have an arrangement of keys for the same model. Do not try to change anything in a hurry, possibly your warranty will be void. I recommend technique 3 because of its permanent, safe, and reliable option.
